Anger management – as walking

Text and drawing by Frits Ahlefeldt

Walking can help on many things, anger is one of them for sure, but why?

When walking you can rest your mind and use your body, face the wind, the rain and yell at the clouds but is that why anger can somehow be faced on the trails, in ways harder at home?  I wonder if maybe there are also other factors playing important parts. Something to do with leaving the known, something with the “less is more” lifestyle of walking, where you don’t have as much to defend, where you are moving along and not locked into a corner of too much stuff – it is sometimes said that things own us more than we own them. Hikers travel light in more than one way…
